The Counseling Department at Walton High School is dedicated to helping our students reach their goals. Through personal support, school wide programs, and assistance, the Counseling Department is committed daily to the young people of our community.

 

Meet The School Counseling Staff

School counselors are assigned by last names. Counselors encourage students to come in during their lunch period or email their counselors to make an appointment from 8:00 am - 3:45 pm. Parents should email their child's school counselor for an appointment.

Upcoming Events

FAFSA Completion Workshop (Virtual)

Monday, October 3
6:30 pm

Marcus Hilliard from the Georgia Student Finance Commission will do a follow-up to financial aid night and do a live virtual FAFSA workshop for interested families.

PSAT/NMSQT

Wednesday, October 12
8:20 am

10th Graders are automatically registered to take the PSAT for free.

9th graders and 11th graders are also encouraged to take the PSAT. The cost is $18, and the registration deadline is Monday, September 12. Register at www.mypaymentsplus.com.

11th graders interested in participating in the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) are required to take the PSAT to qualify. 

ASVAB Test (PSAT Day)

Wednesday, October 12
8:20 am

Walton High School will offer an administration of the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) to juniors and seniors. Military personnel will offer a score interpretation session approximately three weeks after the administration.

Junior Advisement

Monday, October 24 - Tuesday, November 15

Families will be presented information on preparing for life after high school: post-secondary options, College Admissions Requirements vs. High School Graduation Requirements, NCAA eligibility, ACT/SAT, the Hope Scholarship Program, Financial Aid opportunities, Dual Enrollment, as well as the State Workforce Development Initiatives    Families will also see how to explore college options via Naviance. Additionally, families will meet with a School Counselor to complete their 2-year plan.

Signs of Suicide

Thursday, November 17

The counseling department will present the national curriculum of Signs of Suicide through the Health classes to teach students to ACT.

Sophomore BRIDGE Activity

Sophomores will review the graduation and promotion requirements, learn more about Dual Enrollment, and continue exploring college and career planning through this state activity. This will take place in all 10th grade English classes.
